WUR makes job postings more inclusive
Rutger Voorrips, Senior Recruiter at Wageningen University & Research, shares how WUR collaborates with Textmetrics to create accessible, inclusive, and easy-to-understand job vacancies, without compromising on scientific content.

“We want more women in science, and that starts with language.”
The challenge: A job posting that works
“Scientists are often very skilled at describing their research, but less so at clearly stating who they’re actually looking for,” says Rutger. Within his recruitment team, the search began for a tool that could enhance job postings without losing the personal touch.
“We had already experimented with Textio, but it felt like a generic American layer over everything. Every sentence turned into a corporate cliché. It didn’t match our tone, culture, or target audience, and it only worked in English. We were looking for a tool that could adapt to our context.”
The deciding factor: A european focus and practical support
During a Werf& webinar week, Textmetrics came into view. “That hit exactly the right note. Multilingual support, attention to tone and structure, and most importantly: control over accessible and gender-inclusive writing. That aligns with what we want, to attract more women into science and create job texts that truly invite people in.”
Textmetrics was quickly introduced to the recruitment team. Managers often draft the first version of a vacancy, which recruiters then edit and refine. “We don’t use much GenAI yet, but we do rely on Textmetrics to check writing style, balance, and clarity. The tool helps us strike the right chord, without feeling artificial.”
In practice: structure and peace of mind while writing
“Even our headstrong recruiters use it gladly,” Rutger laughs. “It doesn’t replace their work, but it’s a helpful way to polish the text. Think of tips on tone, sentence length, SEO, or readability. Everything stays clear and sharp. You don’t have to reread the text three times to make sure no audience was left out.”
What it delivers
“The biggest benefit? Systematic quality assurance, and it doesn’t feel like control. It’s support for language, inclusion, and clarity. And just as important: the partnership feels real. Our input is taken seriously. First with Koen, now with Suayb. Always quick to respond and genuinely engaged!”
Looking ahead: AI, but done responsibly
Although AI isn’t yet widely used in the recruitment process, Rutger is looking ahead with interest. “We’re open to it, but it has to fit within our IT infrastructure and remain GDPR-compliant. What Textmetrics offers, like the Word plugin and adaptive tools, really helps with that. No data leaks, no risks. Just smart and safe optimization.”
