How can I use the editor?

The editor is the place where you can start creating your content. The editor is shown in the image below.

In the multiple white fields in the middle, you can adjust the Page title, Page description and body text. Your page score is based on multiple SEO rules.

Textmetrics incorporated these rules into a live optimisation feature. While writing, multiple suggestions to improve your text appear in this feature. These suggestions tells you how to improve your text for the search engines and also how to structure your text for your readers.

Step 1

Optimizing your page starts at “Page title”  and “Page description”. These two elements are important for the search engines. You can see them as the identity card for your webpage.

The image above shows how your page title and page description looks in the search results. A page title should not contain more than 55 characters in order to display the title in the search results. The page description contains a short resume and a purpose to visit the page. To encourage the search engine optimization, you should enter your keyword at least once in both the title and the description.

Step 2

The rule set option allows you to choose between a article/blog page and a product page. These two text types have a different ruleset in the field of SEO. You can choose for article/blog page for optimizing pages that contain a significant amount of content, like blog posts. When you want to optimize a page that has less content, like a product description page for a webshop, you should choose product page. This ruleset is a bit less strict on content size. When you click on rule set, you can choose between article/blog page and product page. Now your text will be optimized on the right ruleset!

Step 3

The body text in the editor is your actual working space. This is the area where you’ll write, edit and improve your web content. It’s important you’ll use bold text and italic text. Both of these texts should contain your keyword one time.

The total amount of words in your text should be at least 229. Your keyword density should be at least 1%, this is based on the currunt amount of words in your text. Make sure you have an eye on the live optimisation feature while writing your text.

  • The grey arrow indicates the cut, copy and paste buttons. The paste button on the left is the normal paste button. The paste button in the middle is for pasting plain texts. You can use the paste button on the right when you copied your text from word. The last two buttons is where you can undo or redo recent changes in your text.
  • You can activate the spellchecker  by clicking on the button that is indicated by the green arrow.
  • The option to add a link or a anchor property is indicated by the blue arrow.
  • The purple arrow indicates the option where you can insert a image, table, horizontal line or special character.
  • To convert your text to a HTML code you can click on the source button, indicated by the dark blue arrow.
  • The option to add styles is indicated by the orange arrow and the option to add headings (H1, H2, etc.) is indicated by the red arrow. Want to know more about the use of headings? Take a look at this article.
  • The pink arrow indicates the option where you can add a numbered list, a bullet list, a decrease indent, a increase indent or a block quote.
  • To make buttons to make your text bold, italic, underlined or with a strikethrough is indicated by the black arrow.
  • The black arrow also indicates the buttons where you can add a subscript or superscript and a option to remove a format.

Step 4

The last step is finishing your new text! You can save your page by clicking on the ‘save‘ button.

Through the projects option you can save your page in a specific project, indicated by the grey arrow. You can also export your page. To know more about this feature, take a look at this article.

Extra features

Under Page you will find an option to import content from an existing page (URL), an option to apply a predefined template, an option to restore previous versions of your page, an option to duplicate your page, a page tracker to see your SEO results and an option to view your text in HTML.

Under Tools you will find a sentiment analysis, a web guidelines checker to see if your page meets the web accessibility guidelines, a readability checker to check the reading level of your text and a external page score option to calculate the score of an already existing page by using a URL.
